そびえ立つ塔の内部へ入ると中は薄暗いが、やがていくつもの外界という星が点在する光景に出会える。それは、闇の中でしか得ることのできない希望なのかもしれない。 Entranceの右に高さ6mの鈍く黒光る鉄製の塔「Brilliant darkness」が立っている。構造が外側にむき出しになり、壁面は接線を共有しあう３つの楕円を基調とする曲面で、中に人が入ることのできる設計になている。出入り口は、〈潜り戸のような穴〉と〈塔の上まで延びた隙間〉の2箇所あり、中には闇が用意されている。 Brilliant darknessの中に入りしばらく滞在し暗闇に目が慣れてくると、徐々に針穴を通した光がガラス球に受け止められている様子を見ることができる。その光源はさらに目を凝らして見ることによって、先ほどまで居た外の光景であることを知る。 |
| ■Brilliant darkness − alef On the right side of “Entrance” is a work entitled “Brilliant darkness,” a steel tower six meters high, standing in dim black luster. The interior wall of the structure, designed so that it can be entered, is exposed, which means that the structure is made inside out. Its design is based on the curved surfaces of t ovals sharing tangent lines, one on top of the other. There are two entrances: one is a hole that is similar to a wicket-door; the other resembles a vertical opening that extends to the top of the tower. On the inside, darkness awaits for the viewers. When viewers’ eyes are used to the darkness after being inside “Brilliant darkness” for a while, the light that pierces through the pinhole found in each glass ball inside the structure gradually becomes visible. Gazing at the light source a while longer enables viewers to realize that what they are seeing are the outside scenes that they saw before entering the tower. |
